PM Holds Breakfast Meeting with President of Vietnam

TOKYO: Prime Minister Hun Sen had breakfast with the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Suon Phuc, on Tuesday morning, 27 September, while in Tokyo, Japan to attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

During the breakfast meeting, the two leaders expressed their mutual appreciation for the cooperation and progress made in all fields between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Prime Minister Hun Sen informed the Vietnamese President that he had attended the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations and also paid an official visit to Cuba. He further highlighted the fruitful results of the work achieved with the new Vietnamese Prime Minister on strengthening and expanding bilateral, multilateral, regional and international relations with mutual interests in mind.

President Nguyen Suon Phuc expressed his pleasure in being able to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen once again in Japan. He expressed his appreciation for the Cambodian Prime Minister’s leadership, which has restored and developed Cambodia in all fields.

The Vietnamese President also praised the heads of government of the two countries for working together on a number of major issues that benefit both countries and peoples, especially the growth of cross-border trade despite the Covid-19 crisis.

The two leaders also agreed to continue addressing some of the remaining issues, especially the ongoing border demarcation between Cambodia and Vietnam, as soon as possible. The Vietnamese President wished Prime Minister Hun Sen even greater success in chairing ASEAN to serve regional interests. He also shared many memories of working with Cambodia during his time as Prime Minister of Vietnam.

President Nguyen Suon Phuc and Prime Minister Hun Sen also discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues of common concern.
